Pick a niche you can dominate
The riches really are in the niches. A focused channel grows 3–5x faster than a generalist one because YouTube's algorithm needs a clear topical fingerprint to slot you into the right Browse feeds.
Sweet-spot test: pick a niche broad enough to support 100 video ideas, but narrow enough that you can name the top 5 creators off the top of your head. If you can't name them, the niche is too broad.
Find a sustainable cadence
One excellent video per week beats three rushed uploads. Consistency over a 6-month window is what trains the algorithm and your audience.
Batch production: film 2 videos in one day, edit them across the week. Burnout is the #1 reason channels die before they hit 1,000 subscribers.
Use Shorts as a discovery engine
Shorts drive cheap, fast reach — but they convert poorly to long-form subscribers unless you build a clear bridge. Pin a long-form video in the comments, and end every Short with a verbal CTA: "Full video on my channel."
Rule of thumb: 1 long-form + 2 Shorts per week is the optimal mix for the first 90 days.
